| Figure III-6-aeg-038. Polygonal scaly aegis with gorgoneion (the severed head of Gorgon Medusa). This is an interesting piece of clever pre-campaign propaganda of the two Augusti, Septimius and Caracalla, devised to have a reassuring effect on the populace and project a confidence in the certainty of success of the planned military invasion of Britain. |
