Set III-3-tib-001. In Roman mythology, Tiberinus was the genius of the river Tiber. As a river-god, he played a very important role in the foundation myth of the city of Rome and its early legendary history. He assisted a wandering Trojan hero Aeneas after his arrival to Italy. He also found the twins Romulus and Remus and gave them to the she-wolf Lupa (who had just lost her own cubs) to suckle. He later rescued and married Rhea Silvia, the mother of the twins and a Vestal Virgin who had been sentenced to death by an usurper.
